She graduated in 1953 from the College of Wooster, in Wooster, OH, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the music honorary society. Throughout her life, Barbara was driven by an intense intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm, which led her to pursue a wide variety of interests. She traveled widely throughout much of the world. At different times she was intensely involved in bridge, in gardening, and in studies of the Southwest, to name just a few of her many pursuits. Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Elizabeth Hefferon of McLean, VA, Susan Kresge of Wayne, NJ, and Diane Short of Albuquerque; two brothers, Peter Mortensen and David Mortensen, as well as seven grandchildren.
