Ms. Laura Kay, MD., F.A.C.E.P., age 43, of Rio Rancho, NM passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011. She was preceded in death by her father Billy F. Kay, MD. Dr. Kay was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Judith and Billy Kay in 1967. She is survived by her beloved daughter Sarah Rose Smithson; and beloved son Jacob Galen Smithson of Rio Rancho, NM; mother Judith Burger and husband Terry of Overland Park, KS; sisters Patty Danon and husband Steve of San Diego, CA., Christy Kay of Overland Park, KS. and Brenae Tapp of Kansas; brothers Brad and Bryan Burger of Kansas; as well as other relatives. She was an emergency room physician in Kansas, Alamogordo, NM and Albuquerque, NM. She attended The University of Kansas, The University of Missouri, Kansas City, and The University of New Mexico. She completed the national & state of N.M. EMS Medical Directors Course, and received NAED EMD-Q certification in 2007. She served as the medical director for The Los Alamos Department and Consolidated Dispatch Center, Rio Arriba County & Jemez Pueblo and was a member of The American Medical Association, a commissioner with the state EMS Licensing Commission, a member of The International Academy of Emergency Dispatch Readers Group, National Standards Council, an adjunct faculty of Emergency Medicine of The University of New Mexico School of Medicine and The Medical Director, Santa Fe 911, Santa Fe Regional Emergency Communications Center.
