Obituary for FULWILER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 13, 2011

Aileen M. Fulwiler, beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011. She was born Aileen Marcella Feakes on August 30, 1925 in Pine River, MN where she was raised on a farm and then attended Teacher's College. After teaching grades 1-8 in a one room rural Minnesota "country school" for four years, she left the country life for San Diego, CA where she worked as an inspector for Honeywell in the production of B-36 airplanes during WWII. After transfer to Fort Worth, TX with Honeywell, she met her husband, Hal, who came complete with two boys, Cal and Rey, and a daughter, Suzi. Aileen, Hal, and boys moved to Pensacola, Florida where they opened a mobile home sales business, but missing the mountains of NM, Hal soon brought his family to Questa, NM where they bought "Cottonwood Park", a fishing resort with cabins on the banks of the Red River. During their 13 years there, they became parents of a boy, Jeff, and a girl, Debbie. In 1971, they moved to Albuquerque and started another business, "Potteryland", which they operated until retirement. Aileen loved to play golf, fish, garden, and read. She was especially eager to babysit her grandchildren when they were young. While raising her own children, she was an avid volunteer in the schools, libraries, girl scouts, and community hospitals, all while working alongside her husband in their businesses. She also worked for the Social Security Administration in Albuquerque for ten years. She was always there for her friends and family and was an inspiration in her strong faith in God and giving spirit. Aileen is survived by her son, Jeff and her daughter, Debbie Saunders, both of Albuquerque; stepson, Rey Fulwiler, and wife Julie of Edgewood, stepson Cal Fulwiler of Lake Tahoe, NV, stepdaughter, Suzi Houston of Biloxi, MS; grandchildren Steve and Sam Saunders of Albuquerque, Scott and Grant Fulwiler of Seattle, step-grandaughter, Elizabeth Sanchez and husband Levi of Edgewood, and several other step-grandchildren who reside out of state. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal; her parents; and her brothers Harold and Bruce Feakes.
