Obituary for GREEN

Herbert. On July 4, 1930 a baby boy was born to the late Rev. Phillip and Mary Walton Green. He departed this life on February 14, 2011. He was the sixth child of 12 children born into this family of which eight preceded him in death. Upon confession of his faith in Jesus Christ Herbert joined the First Missionary Baptist Church of Uniontown, Alabama. He received his formal education from Perry County Training School. After graduating from high school he joined the United States Army where he served his country proudly in the Korean War. After completing a tour of duty in Korea he relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he established his resident to advance his education he enrolled at the University of Albuquerque. While attending the University he met and fell in love with Gregory Boone and soon after was united in marriage. His career as a communication specialist for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. expanded over a period of some 28 plus years. His love for God and his strong Christian background eventually led him to unite himself with the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he was a dedicated member and served on various auxiliaries and boards including that of a Deacon he served faithfully until his passing. Herbert is a 33 Mason and was a member of Cyrene Lodge #844. Herbert was a man of Commitment very proud and loved his family above all else, often stood in as a father to his many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gregory Boone; one daughter, Lynn Cherry Green; five brothers, Johnnie, Phillip, Clearence, Bernard Green; three sisters, Laurelia Thompson, Regina Green and Julia Hunter. Those left to cherish his treasured memories, one son, Herbert Pierce Green of Germany; one grandson, Herbert Daniell Green of Berlin Germany; one granddaughter, Lessalena Johnson of Arizona; two brothers, Robert (Ethel) Green of Birmingham, Alabama, Donald (Janic) Green of Uniontown, Alabama; one sister, Bertha (Simmie) Williams, of Falls burg, NY; 13nieces; seven nephews and a host of cousins relatives and dear friends. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church on Saturday, February 26, 2011, with Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Fairview Memorial Park following the service.
