Obituary for MORTON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday February 19, 2011

Elizabeth Jeanette Morton entered into eternal life with the Lord while surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Elizabeth, known to family and friends as Betty, was a vibrant and tender woman who lived an incredibly rich life. She was born in Mansfield, OH, on June 22, 1930 to John and Margaret Eder. Throughout her life Betty was known for her unconditional love and hospitality. Everyone who walked through her door became family and was accepted with a hug and a plate of hot food. Betty was full of laughter - and mischief as well - she was well known for her sassy remarks and for starting indoor snowball fights with her grandchildren. Along with her playfulness, Betty had a loving and sympathetic heart and was always the most understanding confidante and the most comforting shoulder to cry on. A remarkably faithful and godly woman, Betty ministered to the congregation of St. Mark's on the Mesa for many years and in many ways through her volunteer work and through the prayer, encouragement and service she offered to everyone. Betty said that she was an imperfect woman, but her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are perfect, and she is survived by them: Her beloved children, Guy and Peggy Morton, Midge and Emilio Torres, Amy and John Kevin Childers, and her "adopted" daughter Bonnie Anaya; her many grandchildren, Justin Hamersly and Loni Brewer, Katy Shea and Jay Schultz, Kathleen Robertson, Holly Beth Morton, Jennifer and Adam Hachfeld, Craig and Brett Robertson, Kelsey Morton, Joe Morton, Paul Childers and Daniel Robertson; and her wonderful great-grandchildren, Taylor, Dillon, Emery and Andrew; She is also survived by her sisters, Anne Kolibab and Martha Mercer, husband Frank Mercer. Her loved ones include many family members and dear friends all over the world. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob; and her brother, Ed Eder. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Vista Care and for the outpouring of prayer support from our Christian brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the charity of your choice.
