Peter Joseph. Funeral mass and rosary for Peter Joseph Racki, age 78, of Gallup, NM will be held at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup, NM. Private entombment will be at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery in Trinidad, CO. A reception celebrating his life will be held at the Elks Lodge in Gallup, NM following the services. Mr. Racki was born on Election Day April 5, 1932 in Gallup, NM. He went to be with the Lord on Friday January 21, 2011. Peter was a proud graduate of Gallup High School Class of 1950 and has lived his entire life in Gallup, NM. He served in the US Air Force from 1951-1955. After an honorable discharge, he started his banking career as a Teller at the First State Bank in Gallup; he would rise in the ranks to the title of Vice-President. Peter then became the very first President of Citizens Bank. He was very instrumental in setting up the bank. Peter later retired as the Executive Director of the Gallup Housing Authority in 1994. Mr. Racki was a Past Exhaulted Ruler for Gallup Elks Lodge BPOE 1440, a lifetime member of SNPJ Lodge #120 and CFU Lodge #60 in Gallup, NM. Past secretary of the Gallup Lions Club. He was formerly the board chairman for the Midwest NM CAP, Hall of Fame member of the AIB Gallup Chapter, and proudly served the American Heart Association and PERA. Peter was a longtime member and musician with the Gallup Tamburitzas Orchestra and loved to watch his beloved Detroit Lions, Boston Celtics & Detroit Tigers. Peter is survived by his loving Wife Gladys of Gallup, NM; His pride and joy son Derek, his wife Suzanne and his only granddaughter Katie Racki of Rio Rancho, NM; He is also survived by one sister, Rosemary Kezele of Pasadena, CA; many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Sweet Pea. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Sr., and Mary Racki; and three sisters Millie Chepin, Julie Radosevich and Violet Robinson. Pallbearers will be Stephen Wheeler, Leander Begay, Don Holland, The Honorable Louis DePauli Jr, Owen Barber Sr. and Steve Holland; Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Kimbrough, Robert Taira, Leroy Voight, George Taira, Tom Mihalchick, Louis DePaul Sr, Charles Starkovich, Manuel Gonzales, Jake Muskrat, Frank Gonzales, Tuna Esparza and Michael DePauli. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gallup NM Elks Lodge Scholarship Fund and the McKinley County Humane Society. Rollie Mortuary, Gallup NM has charge of arrangements.
