Obituary for BACA

Andres Baca, age 84, passed away on January 20, 2011 at the Guadalupe County Hospital in Santa Rosa following an illness. Andres was born on October 24, 1926 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Francsico and Leandra (Ulibarri) Baca. He was reared and attended schools in Santa Rosa. Andres served in the United States Navy as a Seaman First Class from 1943 until 1946. He married Polly Tenorio in 1948 in Santa Rosa. He then went to work for Phillips Petroleum in Borger, TX. He returned to Santa Rosa in 1958 and worked with Mr. A.W. Smith at his service station for several years until he opened Andy's Conoco. Andres also worked with the New Mexico State Highway Department for several years until his retirement. Andres loved his horses and ranching. He was a Master Stone Mason and did several projects in the Santa Rosa area including the Entrance to St. Joseph Cemetery and the rock wall surrounding the Rectory and Parking area of St. Rose Church. Andres and his wife Polly were faithful parishioners of St. Rose of Lima Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son; Andrew Baca, his daughter; Cynthia Baca his sisters; Margaret Marquez and Tina Casaus and his grandson; Andres Nieto. Survivors include his wife Polly of the Family home in Santa Rosa, his children; Alfred Baca and wife Barbara of Santa Rosa, Arthur Baca and wife Anastacia of Santa Rosa, Kenny Baca and wife Lyrissa of Las Vegas, NV, Julie Delgado and husband Richard of Santa Rosa and Laura Cantu of Phoenix, AZ. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters; Trinnie Campos and husband Pelagio of Santa Rosa, Maggie Gallegos and husband Evy of Santa Rosa, Sister Mary Magdalene Baca of Amarillo, TX, Frank Baca of Santa Rosa, Ramon Baca and wife Marcella, Gilbert Baca and wife Vicki, Polly Maes, Boni Baca and wife Sylvia all of Albuquerque and Connie Chavez of Santa Rosa, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends and realtives. As per Andres's request, cremation has taken place and a rosary will be recited on Monday, January 24, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Church. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 25, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose Church with Father Anthony P. Bolman officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery All services for Mr. Baca have been entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
