Obituary for DEPATIE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday January 22, 2011

Corrine Becker Depatie passed away January 17, 2011 in the comfort of her home with her family at her side. She passed away due to complications secondary to Alzheimers disease. Corrine was born May 20, 1934 to Emily and Julius Becker. An only child, Corrine grew up assisting her father in the family pie shop in Norwalk, Connecticut. To her friends her home was the favorite gathering spot after school for the delicious pies that were in abundance. Following high school she met the love of her life, David Depatie, while studying chemistry at the University of Vermont. She went on to earn her Masters of Chemistry and on September 1, 1956 she and David were united in marriage. She worked in the research laboratory at Yale Medical Center while David attended graduate school and later taught chemistry at Trinity College. They began a family together giving birth to their first child, Jonathan David, and three years later their daughter, Jocelyn Mae. The young family relocated in the early 1970's to Albuquerque, New Mexico. For the next 25 years, Corrine enjoyed working in the real estate industry in the Albuquerque area. It is in the Southwest that Corrine's love of art blossomed. She loved the vibrant colors, and the vivid landscape the southwest offered. She spent a week studying art at the ranch where Georgia O'Keefe painted and this ignited her passion in art. Watercolors were the medium she chose to create her many works. It is these works that she will perhaps be most remembered for. Many have been shown in art exhibits across the Mid and South-West regions of the US. They are now prominently displayed in the family homes. Later this spring the family will honor her memory with an art exhibit and auction with proceeds benefiting the Alzheimers Association. She will join in spirit her son, Jonathan David, 1963-2001. She leaves behind her husband of 54 years, David; her daughter, Jocelyn; her granddaughter, Danielle Emily Doney; and her grandson, Wesley David Doney. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be offered for her friends, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Edstrom & Rooks Funeral Service, Serenity Springs Chapel of Tranquility, Rapid City, SD. In lieu of flowers the family requests your generous donation to the Alzheimers Association. Friends may sign her online guestbook and offer condolences at: www.serenityspringsfuneralchapel.com.
