Margaret LaRue (Burkett) Botsford, 92, passed away January 7, 2011 in the NM State Veteran's Home. She was born September 16, 1918 to Harry W. and Jemima Burkett in South Mahoning Township, Indiana County, Pa. and married Alex Botsford September 12, 1939. Friends called her Peg. She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Curtis and is survived by her husband, Alex of Truth or Consequences; sons, Jim (Abby) of Sandia Park, Charles of CA; and granddaughters, Deborah Owens of AZ, Denise Fleming and Pauline Gorman both of CO, Nicole Mestas of Albuquerque; and a sister, Marion Mumford of PA. She was an Eastern Star Worthy Grand Matron, active in United Methodist Women, a member of the Methodist Church in Truth or Consequences and a previous member of the First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. She was a prolific writer of poetry and short stories and played the organ and piano at any and all functions when asked. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., at the NM State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences with the Eastern Star members giving a memorial. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the First United Methodist Church in TorC. There will be no graveside services.
