Robert Cahill Resta died on January 5, 2011. Robert was born at Fort Hamilton, New York, NY, on September 5, 1918 to Rocco Resta and Margaret Cahill Resta. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Krista M. Resta. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Wetter Resta of Albuquerque, NM; four sons, Mark Cahill Resta and his wife, Rosemary, of San Jose, CA, Richard Zellweger Resta of Albuquerque, NM, Robert George Resta and his wife Victoria, of Corvallis, OR, Dr. Thomas Cahill Resta and his wife Juanita, of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren, Micaela, Elena, Rocco, Analiese and Sheldon. Robert spent the majority of his childhood in San Pedro, CA, where his father served as founder and conductor of the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra. During World War II, he was a pilot in the 8th Air Force, England. Decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Medals. Using the GI Bill, he received a degree in Political Science from Whitman College, Walla Walla, WA. It was there he met his wife, who worked as a dietitian at the college. He later graduated from the University if Idaho, School of Law. After holding jobs in CA and AZ, he finally settled in Albuquerque after accepting a position at Sandia National Laboratories in 1961. He began his private practice in civil law in Albuquerque in 1962, being a strong advocate of the small business owner, and served as Legal Counsel for the Bernalillo County Sherriff from 1983-1984. Later in life he and his wife enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, gardening and spending tine with their grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held at 8:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Aquinas Newman Center, with committal service to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences can be submitted at: www.danielsfuneral.com.
