Elaine C. Marchand, 86, passed away on December 30, 2010. She was born November 23, 1924 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Albert and Helen (McNamara) Luckraft. Before retirement, Elaine was a registered nurse. She graduated from nursing school in 1944 and practiced primarily in hospital settings. She also graduated from Western New Mexico University with a B.A. in economics. She was talented in knitting, sewing, needlepoint, and crochet; was an avid reader; enjoyed crossword puzzles; was a financial whiz from whom many sought advice; loved gardening. She was a volunteer for many years at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque, giving tours of the museum. Elaine was a generous supporter of Barrett House in Albuquerque. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Walter E. Marchand, M.D. in 1990. She is survived by son Erich, his wife Meryl, and granddaughters Zoe and Kate, all of Santa Fe; daughter Heidi of Albuquerque; sister Dorothy of Rio Rancho; brother Allan of Burnsville, MN; sister Sandra of New Bedford, MA. Burial will take place at the National Cemetery at Ft. Bayard, NM.
