Obituary for LACY

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday January 09, 2011

Bill C. Lacy, who coined the phrase "Life is good" long before it showed up on T-shirts, died January 7, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. Born on March 9, 1932, in Mountain Pine, Ark., Bill served in the Air Force during the Korean War before moving to Albuquerque in 1955, where he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration at the Air Traffic Control Center, moving up the ranks from air traffic controller to assistant chief when he retired in 1991. He enjoyed traveling in his RV with his wife Connie, remodeling and maintaining their house and yard, grooming their dogs Willie and Lucy, and hot New Mexican food. We enjoyed his sense of humor, his encouragement and his way of working behind the scenes to get things done. Predeceased by his wife Avanell; parents Emery and Maggie Lacy; brother Marion Lacy; and sister Alta Lois Outler, he is survived by his wife Connie; son Mark Lacy and daughter-in-law Lynn Lacy; daughter Alison Wingfield and son-in-law Mark Wingfield; and stepdaughters Jennifer Farley and Melissa Myers. Brothers and sisters include Randolph Lacy, Imogene Reed, James Lacy, Betty Jo Lacy and Milree Smith. Grandchildren include Parker Lacy, Luke Wingfield, Garrett Wingfield, Matthew Farley, Justin Farley, Luke Farley, Tanner Myers, Logan Myers and Hannah Myers. He also was a favorite among his many nieces and nephews. Life is good because we knew Bill. Memorial service: Tuesday, Jan. 11, 10:30 a.m., St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona NE, 87110, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Love INC (in the name of Christ), c/o St. John's United Methodist Church.
