Lucille Frances Katherine Duran (Romero), age 100, of Las Vegas, NM passed away peacefully Friday morning, January 7, 2011 in Albuquerque. Lucille was born June 29, 1910 at the Santa Fe Territorial Penitentiary while her father served as warden and was raised in Las Vegas, NM. Lucille, the youngest of seven, was the oldest surviving member of the storied Romero Family of San Miguel County. She taught in Northern NM and later worked at NM Highlands U. as a dorm mother. Lucille, the family's matriarch, was proud, loving and giving and had a sharp wit and pointed sense of humor until her last days. She was preceded in death by father Cleofes Romero Sr., mother Arabella Bernard; first husband Dan Duran and their infant children, Emma and Lucille; second husband Benito Duran; son Benito Dwight Duran; grandchildren Christina Haar, Margaret Haar and Stephen Haar. She is survived by: daughters Carmen Haar, Joanna Barbero and Emma Maestas, 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
