Obituary for DEHAVEN

Ruth K. DeHaven, 87, passed away at home on December 14, 2010. She was born December 11, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Edith and Paul W. Kemp. Ruth is survived by her three children: Paul DeHaven of Fairbanks, Alaska, Jackie DeHaven of Tacoma, Washington, and Dawn O'Brien of Edgewood, New Mexico; She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Frank and Michael Coletta, Sean, Erin and Chris O'Brien, and Christy DeHaven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward DeHaven; and her sister Grace Temple. The daughter of opera singers, Ruth had an unwavering passion for music and the arts. Throughout her long and rich life, she was active in many church choirs and played the organ or piano for many church services. Ruth and Ed spent 23 years in Mexico City, where Ruth enjoyed teaching piano out of her home. During this time, she also became an accomplished artist, particularly enjoying pastels and oils. Upon Ed's retirement, she and Ed enjoyed creating wooden folk art pieces, cutting and assembling, Ruth painting. Ruth was loved by many and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to La Mesa Presbyterian Church, designated for the Albuquerque Opportunity Center, one of Ruth's favored charities.
