Virginia Logan Meyers, 92, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010. A fourth generation descendant of pioneering West Texans, Virginia Lee Lewis was born October 24, 1918, in San Angelo Texas, to Adelia (Charlie D.) Beauchamp and Edward Colquitt Lewis. After her mother's death, five-year-old Virginia was raised by her maternal grandmother, Ethel Blanks Beauchamp Carruthers, on the family's ranch near Sterling City and in San Angelo. Shortly after graduating from San Angelo High School, she married her loving husband of 65 years, Harry Cook Logan. They lived in McCamey before residing in Big Lake where she nurtured her husband and two sons, Larry and Richard. In 1963, Mr. and Mrs. Logan moved to Breckenridge, Texas, where Mr. Logan was President of Citizens National Bank and was engaged in oil and gas partnerships. After his retirement in 1977, the couple traveled extensively, including several trips as representatives of the United States in former President Dwight Eisenhower's "People to People" tours to foreign nations. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. A resident of Rio Rancho since 1997, Virginia was well loved by one and all in her large retirement community complex where she served as the gracious unofficial greeter and hospitality chair. Her kindness, infectious energy and friendliness charmed her acquaintances, friends and family. Besides her great love for her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters, she was fortunate in having three wonderful men - Harry "Nip" Logan, John Bettinger and Walt Meyers -- to love and who loved her dearly. She is survived by her devoted and compassionate husband, Wilbert H. Meyers of Rio Rancho; sons, Larry Lee Logan and wife Sonya of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Richard Lewis Logan and wife Mary of Victoria, Texas; grandchildren, Dr. Ashley Logan Drews and husband Karl of Houston, Texas, Melissa Lee Logan of Idyllwild California, Brad Lewis Logan of Cardiff, California, and Austin Lewis Logan and wife Sandy of East Bernard, Texas; great-grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Drews and Amy Logan Drews, both of Houston, and Emma Lynn Logan of East Bernard; step-children, Mildred Griffin and husband Jim of Albuquerque, Lynn Meyers Perkins and husband Jim of Topeka, Kansas, Jim Meyers of Louisville, Kentucky, Robert Meyers and wife Carol of Albuquerque, Carol Meyers Stewart and husband Tom of Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Jan Meyers Proett and husband Steve of Golden, Colorado; and extended family, Melissa Bentley of Albuquerque, and Alec Bentley of New York. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Cook Logan, and second husband, Col. John L. Bettinger A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. To honor her memory, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
