Obituary for GONZALES

Matilde Vigil Gonzales (Tillie), 95, passed away in Albuquerque on October 9, 2010, after a wonderful lifetime dedicated to her much-loved and loving family. Born in Nara Visa on February 21, 1915, she graduated from high school and married Eloy Gonzales Sr., from Roy. They were married for 47 years before his death in 1981. They raised six children in Santa Fe after moving from the family homestead in Bueyeros. Tillie was active in politics, a career woman and entrepreneur, and an international traveler. She and Eloy were very active in their church and community, and her hobbies included New Mexico cuisine and unique Christmas crafts. Tillie is survived by her beloved sister, Anna Chavez of Albuquerque; daughters, Helen Longacre of Farmington, Marietta Gonzales and husband James Nason of Longmont, Colorado, Patricia Gonzales and husband Edward "Gonzo" Gonzales of Santa Fe; sons, Eloy Gonzales Jr. and wife Ginger Blalock of Albuquerque, John Gonzales and wife Catherine of Ajijiq, Mexico, James Michael Gonzales and wife Patti of Parker, Colorado; and daughter-in-law Cathy Gonzales of Albuquerque; She leaves 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A rosary for Tillie will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Guadalupe Sanctuary in Santa Fe at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Contributions may be made in her name to VistaCare in Albuquerque (505-821-5404) or a hospice organization of choice.
