Obituary for MONDRAGON

Max "Tata" G. Mondragon, age 84, beloved father, grandfather, and brother, was called to his heavenly home by the Lord, Tuesday, October 12, 2010, while surrounded by his loving family. He was a life long resident of Bernalillo, NM. Max was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved planting chile. His desire to serve others led him to the Armed Forces and to hold political office in his community. His stint in the military service placed him in Europe during World War II, serving under the most feared man in all the American Army - General George Patton. Under Patton's command, Max spear headed a tank division know as "Hell-on-Wheels. He was a proud Veteran and was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he served as Past District Commander. Max served as Councilman for the town of Bernalillo for 16 years, and four years as Sandoval County Commissioner. He worked for Southern Union Gas Co. now known as Gas Company of New Mexico (PNM) from 1951 to 1986 when he retired. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Rosina M. Santillanes. Max is survived by his loving and devoted children, Gerard and his wife Donna; his daughter, Charlotte, Joseph and his wife Jeanne; his precious grandchildren, Kenneth DeMondragon (Theresa), Shannon Garcia (Steve), Joshua Mondragon (Julie), Jacob Mondragon (Katie), Janiah Shields, Christopher Mondragon (Felicia), Kerry Sabado (Robert) and Thomas Storr; his great-grandchildren, Steve Garcia, E.J. Garcia, Michelle DeMondragon, Aaliya Sabado, Robert Sabado Jr., Laleh Tru Shields, and Jaxon Mondragon. Also surviving are his sister, Gertrude "Tula" Chavez; sister-in-law, Lupita S. Martinez; and other numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Max will be fondly remembered for his great generosity and for love of family. Max will be greatly missed by all those whose hearts he touched. A rosary will be recited Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Bernalillo, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m., also at the Church. Interment will take place Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Max's grandsons, Kenneth, Joshua, Christopher, Jacob, Stevie, and E.J.
