Paul H. Harms, long time East Mountain and Albuquerque resident, was born November 13, 1927 in Hillsboro, Kansas and died October 12, 2010 in Albuquerque after a long battle with diabetes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Pauline Harms, son David, sister Joan Dismuke and brother Leon Gene. He is survived by his wife "Skeeter"; daughter,, Linda Socha, her husband, Gary, and granddaughter, Maria, all of Albuquerque. Paul's family moved to Albuquerque in 1936. His father and mother became manager and secretary, respectively, of the first New Mexico State Fair in October 1938. In his youth Paul worked for his father on the fairgrounds and said he watered every one of the trees you now see. Paul graduated from Albuquerque High and attended New Mexico State before joining the US Navy for a 2-year hitch. After discharge he became an engineer for Mountain States Telephone and went on to establish his own business, Harm's Saddle and Ranch Supply, in the South Valley. In 1980 Paul sold the business and he and his wife moved to San Acacia, New Mexico, where on a small farm/ranch they owned and managed a cow/calf operation until moving back to Albuquerque in 1993. Besides his family, Paul was a lover of all things Western, of fishing, Ayun Rand novels, Stetson cowboy hats, his Border Collie, Sadie Sue, animated discussions on a wide variety of subjects, Chevy pickups, perfectly cooked medium-rare ribeye steaks and a wide circle of colorful "cow" people in the Southwest. Cremation has taken place, and at Paul's request there will be no formal services. Arrangements by Riverside Funeral Home.
