Obituary for VALDEZ

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday September 30, 2010

Lucille A. Valdez, 63, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 25, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Federico and Isabel Valdez; two brothers, Rubel Valdez and Maurice Valdez. She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years Robert Valdez; their three children, Robert Valdez,Isabel Valdez, Carolyn and her husband Joe Montoya; She had two very special grandchildren whom she adored, Christopher Montoya and Meaghan Montoya; Also surviving are her five sisters; and two brothers who were always in her heart, even until the very end. "Lucy" demonstrated such courage and hope as she battled cancer for two years. She never became discouraged, nor did she ever ask why? Instead, she offered inspiration and hope to others who were battling any type of afflictions. Her "light" shined through the dark disease of cancer with such beauty that we'd often forget how ill she was. We will remember her for her beauty, charm and devotion to family. She could always make you laugh, even during her final days. We will miss her delicious meals that she prepared for us with such love. Although she lost her two year battle with cancer, her Victory is in Christ. When she reached her earthly finish line, welcoming her home was her Heavenly Father and her "Momma." We can hear the cheers from heaven, for a remarkable, brave soul, who will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., at the 2nd Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, 812 Edith Blvd., NE. Officiating will be the Rev. Jaime Quinones.
