John G. Gallegos, 64, native of Albuquerque, was born September 2, 1946, passed away on September 24, 2010. John graduated from Valley High School in 1964, attended the University of New Mexico. He had been in the travel industry for over 20 years when he was forced into disability retirement due to health reasons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose I. Gallegos and Sostenita M. Gallegos. He is survived by daughter Brandy Gallegos; grandchildren, Ray, Rachel and Brandon; Joe O. Gallegos, III; and Esther L. Roybal; brother and sister-in -law; nieces, Tanya Lechel, Sandy Roybal; and nephew Steve Roybal; Robert (Haps) Barreras, a very close and true friend Johnnie Gallegos; uncle; aunts, Rosella Crooker, Louisa Rivas and Eloisa Mummey; along with many cousins. John touched the lives of many people, who liked his easy going manner and attitude. He was the go to guy when you had a problem or needed help in any way. He always helped without hesitation. He enjoyed fishing, camping and golf. He was a volunteer for many local professional golf tournaments as well as a permanent volunteer for the New Mexico Bowl. He seldom missed a Lobo football or basketball game. In spite of his own disability , he was always on hand to help his brother, who had severe medical issues over the past three years. He sparkled with joy when talking about his grandchildren. He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, October 1, 2010 at Oasis Family Church, 4800 Lomas NE. Arrangements by Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo NE, 764-9663
