Obituary for HUGHES

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday September 10, 2010

Margaret R. Hughes, 92, of Rio Rancho NM, died September 5, 2010. She was born in Ohio and was a former resident of Georgia and Sun City, AZ. She is survived by her two sons, Peter and his wife Toni of Rio Rancho, David and his wife Laura of Colorado Springs. Margaret also had eight grandchildren and step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Hughes; brother, James Roberts. She is especially remembered for her humble attitude, kindness and attractive smile. Here was an artist and teacher that was always ready to help others less fortunate than herself. Although suffering from Alzheimer's for the past ten years, she frequently expressed her gratitude for the assistance of others, especially the staff of Sandia Springs Assisted Living Center in Rio Rancho. Perhaps from the influence of her father's veterinary practice in Ohio, Margaret demonstrated an extraordinary compassion for animals. Rescuing strays became a passion along with her interest in quilting and fine art painting and ceramics. She was still completing quilts and pastel drawings as she approached her 90's. She will be missed by her family, friends and the Ridgecrest Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She looked forward to Christ's promised resurrection onto a restored paradise earth where she will be healthy and young forever. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2010, Daniels Family Funeral Services, 4310 Sara Road SE (located inside Vista Verde Memorial Park), Rio Rancho, NM, 505-892-9920. Contributions in her name are suggested to the Arizona Humane Society or the Alzheimer's Association. "The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it."
