Don W. Whatley, 64, a resident of Albuquerque since 1974, passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Monday, August 30, 2010. Don was a long time advocate for educators as President of Albuquerque Teachers Federation for 16+ years. He taught at Truman Middle School for ten years and during the last seven years he worked with disadvantaged students and their families in the Title I Homeless Project with APS. Don is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Beverly; daughter Amy and husband Troy Edwards; son Kevin and wife Najma Whatley; five grandsons Trevor, Ryan, Cody, Mac and Jack; sister Jean Whatley; brothers J. R. and Paul Whatley; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Beverly Garcia, brother Garrett Whatley and father James Whatley. Visitation will be Friday, September 3, 2010, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at French Lomas. A Celebration of Don's Life will be Saturday, September 4, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle SE. Private Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
