Obituary for DUNLAP

Mary Elizabeth Gohl Dunlap, 85, of Albuquerque passed away, Tuesday, August 25, 2010 after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren L. and Mary E. Gohl of Williamsport, PA; and her husband Samuel (Sam) B. Dunlap. She is survived by two sons, G. Steven Dunlap, Peter C. Dunlap; and granddaughter Victoria. Mary was born June 6, 1925 in Williamsport, PA, where she was raised and educated. She was childhood friends with Sam but drifted apart when Sam entered WWII. She met up with him after his medical discharge from duty in the Pacific Theater, here in Abq., in 1948. They were married six months later on August 26, 1948 and were blessed to spend 62 years together. They chose Abq. to start their family and start New Mexico's oldest Employment agency, New Mexico Employment Bureau, dba, Executive Search in 1951. Mary worked with her husband for 52 years until retirement. She was very active in the Personnel Industry, as past president of the Assn. of Private Employment Agencies of New Mexico. She was awarded certifications of Certified Employment Consultant (CEC) and Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC). She was press secretary for a ladies auxiliary club of the American Businessman's Club (ABC), named (XYZ). Her activities included, former member of the Daughters of the Nile Oriental band, party planning as a Life Member of the Four Hills Country Club, past member of the Albuquerque Country Club and Southwestern Yacht Club. Mary was also active in the New Mexico Section of the Mercedes Benz Club of America, as past President. She was an avid boater and water enthusiast. Involved in boat clubs and later in life enjoyed several years cruising and living on their 43 ft. yacht in San Diego, CA. Mary had a passion for reading and played a mean game of poker on Saturday nights. She enjoyed water skiing, golf, bridge, painting and puzzle building. She was a loving mother and dear friend that will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Temple Lodge #6, 3801 Osuna NE at 10:30 a.m. Internment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 3:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be directed to The Shrine Hospital.
