Obituary for PARKS

Mary Parks of Albuquerque, NM. was born in Big Spring, TX December 2, 1927. She died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the age of 82. Mary had been under the care of Albuquerque Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the Past two years and three months. She was an active member of Del Norte Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Mary became a Christian before she was 18 years old. At 18 she married Yankee Aviation Cadet, Walter Parks at the Base Chapel. Together they moved to Connecticut and lived in the NE for the next ten years. Mary, Walter, and their four children moved back to her home of Big Spring, TX, and they have lived in the Southwest ever since, living in New Mexico, Texas and Arizona. Upon returning to Big Spring, Mary immediately joined the First Baptist Church Choir and under her influence, Walter joined the Church and was baptized. She and her family moved to Roswell, NM, Albuquerque, NM, Washington, DC, and Coolidge, AZ. In Coolidge, Mary was busy with the Church, Teaching Sunday School, in charge of WMU and also supporting her husband as Deacon and Deacon Chairman. Sensitive to their calling as Christians and their beliefs, Mary and Walter applied for a Foreign Missionary Position in Brazil. They obtained passports, were interviewed in Nashville and were learning Portuguese, but they were turned down. Together they retired and traveled for some time. Moving back to Albuquerque in 1988, Mary and Walter joined the Del Norte Baptist Church, where Mary sang in the Choir until her illness forced her to do otherwise. Her hobbies included water color painting and reading. Mary is preceded in death by her two sons and her daughter-in-law, Richard Parks age 27 and wife, Gail who both died in an auto accident and Thomas Parks who died of cancer at the age of 55. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Walter Parks; three children, Jerry Parks of Allen, TX, Rob Parks of Albuquerque, NM and James Parks of Wilcox, AZ; daughter-in-law, and wife of Tom Parks, Mary Parks of Springdale, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Michael and Justin Parks of Allen, TX, Ski Hall of Albuquerque, Jeremy Parks of Germany, Daniel Parks of Abilene, TX, Stacy Bergquist and Bill Menton of Bentonville, Arkansas; 17 great-grandchildren; many other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. A Memorial Service will be held at Del Norte Baptist Church, 5900 Montgomery Blvd. NE. on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 10:00am. A luncheon will follow the services in the Church Dining Hall.
