Obituary for MEHNE

Edwin Karl Mehne, MD, died on July 1, 2010, aged 87. He was born August 14, 1922 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Edwin and Ella Engel Mehne. Dr. Mehne was a graduate of Houghton College, Houghton, N.Y. and Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He served many years on the Navajo Reservation at Sage Memorial Hospital, at a Presbyterian Mission in Ganado, AZ. From 1969 to 1978, he practiced in Rochester, N.Y. and was an Associate Professor of surgery at the University of Rochester. He then returned to the southwest and was Chief of Surgery at the Gallup Indian Medical Center in N.M. until he retired in Albuquerque in 1989. He also volunteered on short term mission trips to Nigeria and Bangladesh. During his years in Albuquerque he was involved in church activities and local organizations such as Healthcare for the Homeless and YDDC. He loved the Sandia Mountains, and enjoyed walking along their trails. Edwin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Natalie; a son David (Maureen) Mehne, M.D. of Aibonito, Puerto Rico; a daughter Connie (Donald) Johnson of Louisville, CO; five grandchildren, David Johnson, Christopher (Taryn) Johnson, Matthew Mehne, Tiffany (David) Hamburger, and Nataly Mehne; and two great-grandchildren, Lilah and Wesley Edwin. He was a humble, compassionate and devout man who dearly loved his family and his Lord, and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 4710 Juan Tabo NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87111.
