Obituary for HAMMONS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday July 11, 2010

Phyllis Hammons, 66, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 7, 2010 in her Springfield, MO home after a battle with cancer. Phyllis was born in Kansas City, KS to Hurley and Lucille Harbison. She married her high school sweetheart, Gene Hammons and enjoyed 46 years of marriage. She accomplished a lot in her life by helping many people through being a licensed Christian counselor in Albuquerque, NM for many years before moving to Springfield, where she began counseling in 1996. Phyllis was a very straight-forward person with a great deal of compassion for others. She loved all types of music, and even played an accordion when she was growing up. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, and she really enjoyed interior design in her various homes. She and Gene are members of Turning Point Church where they have many precious friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; and son, Dan Eugene Hammons. Surviving is her husband Gene Hammons; son Don Alan Hammons of Bellingham, WA; sisters, Judi Pickrell (Earl), Minneapolis, KS, Nancy Little (Phil), Waco, TX; brother, Phil Harbison, Kansas City, KS; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was greatly cherished by her family and friends and we're all left with a huge hole in our hearts, but Heaven has gained a precious child of God. A celebration service for Phyllis' life will be held at Gorman-Scharpf funeral home in Springfield, Tuesday evening, July 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Turning Point Church, 5133 South Campbell Ave., Springfield, MO 65810.
