Obituary for LEVERETT

Walter (Walt) Keith Leverett, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away June 24, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 7, 1948 in Salinas California to parents Jessica Lynn Malloy and Walter Jefferson Leverett. He is survived by his children and their spouses, son Todd Leverett and Kristine of Colorado Springs, Colorado, daughter Erica White and Jason of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and son, Greg Leverett of Vallejo California; grandson, Andrew (Drew) Leverett of Colorado Springs; granddaughters, Helena Guarjardo and Layla White of Albuquerque, NM; and one sister Kay Wynn of Washington. Walt served in the United States Army from Oct 31, 1968 to Jan 24, 1972 with two of these years spent fighting in the Vietnam War. He served as a firefighter with 27 years of service in the Fire Dept for the United States Government from which he retired as Lieutenant from White Sands in June 2005. He was currently working on a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His greatest love was dancing which from 1990 to 1991 he was a member of the Country Time Dance Group out of California, and after helping two of his children compete in the country dance world decided to become a competitor himself. For the last five years he has competed and won numerous dance titles, including World UCWDC Titles in 2009 and 2010. He was our dance champion. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him, he brought joy to lives everyday and the world as we know was just a little better with him watching our backs. Friends may visit French - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd on Sunday, June 27, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held Monday, June 28, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at French - Westside Chapel 9300 Golf Course Rd.
