Obituary for HOCKERT

Jeanne Alice Hockert, 86, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM since 1996, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM. Jeanne is survived by her son, John William Hockert and wife Ranelle of Albuquerque, NM; grandsons, John Andrew Hockert and wife Kathy of Williamsburg, KY, Ian Graeme Hockert of Albuquerque, NM; sister-in-law, Dorothy Mishler of Milford, IN; brother-in-law, Jeffrey Hockert and wife Carolyn of Chesterfield, MO. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, J. Richard (Dick) Hockert, of 66 plus years; her parents; and one younger brother, Bill Mishler. Jeanne was born in Nappanee, IN, on December 21, 1923, the daughter of Orres and Edna Mishler. She graduated from Nappanee High School in 1941. She married the love of her life, Dick Hockert, on November 19, 1942. They moved to Troy, Ohio in the 1950s, where Jeanne reared their son and was active in her community and church, serving several terms as president of the Women's Society of Christian Service of First Methodist Church. During this time Jeanne also worked part time selling real estate. In 1981, Jeanne and Dick moved first to the Innisbrook Resort in FL and then to The Landings, on Skidaway Island, outside Savannah, GA. In 1996, they moved to Rio Rancho, NM to be closer to their son and grandchildren. Jeanne's hobbies included playing golf and bridge. Shortly after they moved to Rio Rancho, Jeanne joined P.E.O. Sorority. Jeanne has been an active member of the United Methodist Church (UMC) all of her life. She and Dick helped the Skidaway Island UMC grow from a small group meeting in a double wide trailer to a church of over 1,000 members during their time on Skidaway Island. Soon after moving to Rio Rancho, Dick and Jeanne transferred their membership to Rio Rancho UMC, where Jeanne remained an active member until her death. Jeanne was a faithful Christian and a loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. A Memorial Service for Jeanne will be held Monday, June 14, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Rio Rancho United Methodist Church, 1652 Abrazo Road NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Rio Rancho United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1652 Abrazo Road NE, NM 87124, 505-892-0404.
