Obituary for CHAVEZ

Leonard M. Chavez, born July 10, 1949, began his journey to eternal peace on Sunday May 30, 2010 to be greeted by his mother-in-law Lizzie Madrid who he missed dearly; and brother Roger " Bush" Chavez. He is survived by wife and best friend for 36 years, Mildred "Sugy"; children: Orlando and wife Yvette, Elene and husband Miguel, Alysha and husband Manuel, Robert, Leandra; grandchildren: Natasha, Mario, Dominique, Mikayla, Miggy Boy, Symmone, Avyanna and Ziyah in whom he found his strength and determination. He was also survived by his mother Carmen Chavez; four brothers; and three sisters; father-in-law and special friend Alejandro Madrid; and brother-in-law, Jay Madrid who helped him in so many ways and "Squirts" his dog who never left his side. Leonard has many accomplishments he was proud of: Served our Country and was a proud Vietnam Veteran, Sandoval County Treasure where he retired in 1999. He also served as City Councilmen for the Town of Bernalillo, and played with various New Mexico artists as a bass player. Leonard will forever be a part of our hearts and souls, we say farewell to a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, friend, and human being. Leonard's Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary on Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo at 7:00 p.m. and Mass on Friday at 10:00 a.m. concluded with military honors at the church.
