Obituary for BARELA

Mariano B. Barela, 94, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went home to be with our Lord , on Friday, May 28, 2010. Mr. Barela was born on December 25, 1915 in La Joya, NM to Milton and Ciprianita (Baca) Barela. In the 1930's he assisted the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the construction of the Catwalk Trail in the Gila National Forest.He served in the US Army during WWII. He entered into the Army at Ft. Bliss, TX and was stationed at Camp Claiborne, LA before his Honorable Discharge at the VA Facility in Albuquerque, NM. He worked for the VA Hospital for 35 years in the transportation department. He loved to bowl, fish, go camping, and enjoyed cooking outdoors. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Victoria Barela, who died in September of 2009; his brothers, Jose Maria Barela, Eulalio Barela, Sevadeo Barela and Avelicio Barela; and sisters, Acension Barela Castillo and Emelia Barela Romero. He is survived by his children, Angie Gomez and husband, Eddie, Cipry Barela, Kathy Barela Swartz, and Mariano C. Barela, Jr., & wife, Ruth; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Erica, Jose, Magin, Arianna, Greg and Eric; five great-grandchildren, Elijah, Gabriella, Alexia, Kaleb and Joshua. A Memorial Service with military honors will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 10:00 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Ave SE.
