Lucy Hampson, 67, passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque surrounded by her family on Thursday April 15, 2010. She lived with and courageously fought pancreatic cancer for the last year and half of her life. Lucy was born in San Francisco CA, and was a resident of Albuquerque most of her life. A graduate of Pomona College, Lucy spent most of her professional career working as an early childhood educator specializing in reading and writing. Shortly after her retirement in 2006 Lucy embarked on a journey to Africa to assist "Orphan Support Africa", a facilitator of community based orphan care programs, in rural Malawi. Lucy also spent many years pursuing her passion of writing books for young children. Lucy is survived by her mother Eleanor Hampson; two sons, William and Jonathan Laughlin; two sisters, Elizabeth Pearson and Sarah Hampson; a brother Kirk Hampson; a niece, and several nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Richard B. Hampson Jr. A Celebration of Lucy's life will be held Sunday, May 30, 2010 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano Rd NW, Albuquerque NM, 87107 at 1:30 p.m. A reception immediately following the service will be held in the parish hall from 2:00 - 4:00.
