Helen Peters Lanier, 98, passed away Monday, May 10, 2010 at her home. She was born, February 26, 1912 in Texarkana, Texas the daughter of William and Gertrude Nash Peters. She received her Bachelor's degree from Texas Wesleyan College in Ft. Worth, Texas. Helen married Henry Spurgeon Lanier, June 5, 1938 in Texarkana, Texas. Helen taught 2nd grade in Texarkana and after moving to New Mexico, she taught on Isleta Pueblo. She retired from teaching when her daughter was born. Survivors include her husband, Spurgeon of Albuquerque; one daughter, Barbara Jean Lanier of Albuquerque; and two nephews, Eddie (Pat) Peters, Texarkana, Texas and Lynn (Lee) Peters of Kingsville, Texas. She was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Peters. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 15, 2010, 11:00 a.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Central United Methodist Church. French 1111 University Blvd. NE (505) 843-6333
