Vance R. Futrell, age 46, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2010. He was born in Winslow, AZ, to Colvin R. Futrell and Trinity Vance Futrell. Vance proudly served his country for four years in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. Vance attended the Albuquerque Public Schools, St. Mary's School in Belen and graduated seventh in his class from Los Lunas High School. He was a member of the National Honor Society. Vance was very active in sports- karate, wrestling, basketball, tennis and swimming. He attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM and received a Bachelors Degree in education. Vance worked for several years at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School. He received a certificate in truck driving and became a professional CDL driving from coast to coast for several large companies which he enjoyed. Traveling was an adventure for Vance. He enjoyed farming, bailing and cutting alfalfa with his grandfather, Clayton J. Vance on his farm in Belen during the summer months. Vance was an avid outdoors man who loved the mountains of New Mexico. He loved to hunt but fishing became his real passion and he never missed an opportunity to go fishing. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Clayton J. Vance; grandmother, Prema Chavez Vance; and grandfather, Andy Futrell. Vance is survived by his loving mother, Mrs. Trinity Vance Bowles; father, Colvin R. Futrell; aunt, Betty Jo Vance; and aunt, Lily Howsman. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 beginning with a viewing at 9:00 a.m. with a rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Matthew Sena, Ed Curtis, Jeff Aragon, Macario Gabaldon, Duane Smith, Phil Jaramillo, Bob Henry and Ambrose Chavez.
