Obituary for MCDONALD

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 02, 2010

Jack Pierce McDonald We rejoice in the knowledge that our dad and grandfather at 88 years of age has finished the journey that the Lord set before him. He walks the streets of gold with Jesus on one hand and his wife of 63 years, Mary Eileene, on the other. On Monday, April 26, 2010, at 5:30 a.m., he passed away peacefully at the El Castillo Retirement Community in Santa Fe. Jack was born in Bovina, Texas, on June 17, 1921, to parents James Pierce McDonald and Sarah Viola Greene. As a gentle man of extreme honor and integrity, by his example Jack's quality life positively influenced the lives and character of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He served his God, his family, his country through active duty in the Army, and his company. He is a great example of the American dream lived out to its fullest, having started off as a lineman in Santa Fe, climbing poles and stringing telephone line, and working his way up to Vice President/Officer of Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Company. As he always told his family, if something is worth doing, do it the very best you can. Jack was very proud of being a 50-plus year member 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. Outside of his love for God, his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jack's passions were golf, woodworking, and watching sports. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Eileene Wallace; parents, Pierce and Ola McDonald; brothers, Raymond A., James L., William W., and Ralph L. McDonald; and sister Mary L. Clements. Surviving Jack are his three children: son, C.V. (Mac) and wife Carol McDonald; daughter, Barbara and husband Frank Livingston; daughter, Dianne and husband Jim Hatfield; grandchildren: Colleen and husband Michael Johnson, Wade and wife Jillian Livingston, Amy and husband Mike Combs, Ian and wife Ruth Ann McDonald, Shannon and husband Russell Neese, and Maggie and husband Ken McMonigle; and great grandchildren: Erin and Sean Gallagher, Jackson Valls, Brevitt, Axel and Tucker Livingston, Hannah Combs, Maisie and Fiona McDonald, Annalee and Callum Neese, and Miles and Nash McMonigle. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Church of Christ (NM Children's Home Fund), 1205 Galisteo Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505, in Memory of Jack McDonald. Burial will take place at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2010. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Church of Christ, 1205 Galisteo, Santa Fe, NM 87505 (corner of Galisteo and Cordova Road).
