Obituary for JOHNSON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday April 23, 2010

Marion Anding Johnson, because of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, moved to her heavenly home on April 21, 2010. Born in Leakesville, Mississippi, 96 years ago, she is survived in this life by her loving husband of 66 years, John Andrew Johnson Sr.; son, Harold Johnson; nieces and nephews, Jeannie Johnson Chunn and husband, Bob, Cyrus C. Johnson III and wife, Kathy, Virginia LaCharite and her husband, Raymond, and Vernon Pleasant and wife, Sally; her many friends from First Baptist Church of Albuquerque; and her wonderful caregivers and fellow residents of Casa de Palomas. She was preceded in death by her son, John Andrew Johnson Jr. and daughter, Janell Johnson; parents, Claude Ellis Anding Sr. and wife, Lucille Bell Anding; sisters and brothers, Nell Anding Pickett and husband, Haley Aubrey, Claude Ellis Anding Jr. and wife, Virginia, Harold Bell Anding, and Janie Anding Pleasant and husband, Sessions; and brother-in-law, Dr. Cyrus C. Johnson II and wife, Jean. A graduate of the high school in Flora, Mississippi, where she grew up, and of Delta State Teachers College in Cleveland, Mississippi, she taught third grade in Leland, Mississippi where she met her future husband in 1939. Married in 1944, they moved to Bonham, Texas and then on to Albuquerque in 1947, where they bought a new house in which they lived until the present day. Both their sons were born at the old St. Joseph's Hospital. She devoted her life to providing a loving home for her family, and spent untold hours seeing to the special needs of her cerebral palsy son Johnny. She played piano and sang in the choir, and marveled at the wonder of God's creation, growing fruits, vegetables and flowers in her garden. She took up china painting later in life. An accomplished cook, she loved to bake for her friends and family. She used her gift of teaching to enable her son, John to maximize his potential by learning to spell, read, and do exercises, and helped him cultivate a lifelong interest in music. An active member of the First Baptist Church of Albuquerque until her age prevented it, she taught in the Training Union and was dedicated to the cause of missions through the Women's Missionary Union. She was a student of the Bible and studied it on a daily basis. Grave side services will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests instead that memorial gifts may be made to the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, 2300 S Avenue I, Portales, New Mexico, 88130.
