Obituary for HOLMES

Kathryn (Kitty) Shannon Holmes, 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Easter morning, April 4, 2010. She was born on November 17, 1925 in Moberly Missouri. She attended Millsaps College in Jackson Mississippi where she met her husband to be, Robert at a church event. She went with Robert, as a Navy wife, to Pensacola Florida in 1944 where he was an instructor pilot at the Naval Flight School. Kathryn and Robert were married 67 years and over their marriage, traveled the world, were avid skiers, and had three children. Kathryn is survived by her husband, Robert Holmes; her son, Robert Holmes Jr.; her daughter Shannon Ingwell; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Kathryn was on the Sandia Peak Ski Patrol from 1964 to 1973 and was the Ski Patrol Leader for 2 years. She also started the Sandia Peak Kinder Ski School in the early 70's. Kathryn was an active skier until she was 81, when medical issues kept her off the slopes. She was also gifted gardener and her peaches consistently took first place at the state fair. Kathryn will be interned at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at a private ceremony for family only. Kathryn touched a lot of lives and will be greatly missed.
