Paul Lester, age 61, a lifelong resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Tuesday, April 6th. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. He was an avid and devoted member of the Democratic Party and spent many years working at the NM State Legislature. Paul loved the Moose Lodge and the values it stands for. He became a member of Moose Family Center 1680 in 1971, where he served as the first and youngest governor of the Belen Lodge. Paul became a member of the 25 Club within his first month of membership. His Moose career lead to honors of Legionnaire in 1971, Fellowship Degree of Honor in 1975, and the Pilgrim Degree in 1990. The Pilgrim Degree is the fourth and highest degree within the Loyal Order of Moose. Only a minimal number of members are ever bestowed this degree. Paul became a life-long member of the lodge in 1992 for his sponsorship of 250 members. Over the course of his life and involvement with the Moose, he sponsored a total of 506 members. In 2009 Legion. Paul was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His best days were those he spent with his family and particularly his grandchildren. Paul had a big heart and shared his life with many people. He appreciated all his friends, there wasn’t a place in this world where he wouldn’t run into someone he knew. He was preceded in death by his father, Abelino Sanchez; paternal grandparents, Placido and Rufina Sanchez; maternal grandparents, Ignacio V. and Stella Gallegos; and his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Waghorn. Paul is survived by his loving mother, Mary Sue Sanchez of Belen; three children, Wayne and wife, Cecilia, Tammy and husband, Rick Engler and Francesca and husband, Steve Waghorn all of Los Lunas; grandchildren, Reuben Molina, Brandon and Sydney Engler, Megan, Emily, and Zachary Waghorn, Heather and Abel Sanchez and Samuel and Kaitlyn Ornelas; his sisters, Sandra and husband, Jimmy Sanchez, Phyllis and husband, Rick Hayes, Mary L. Sanchez, and Gail Ranshaw; nephew, David and wife, Karen Sanchez and three nieces, Bernadette and Maria Sanchez and Brandi and husband,Terrell Trantham. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a viewing on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 3:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Rick Engler, Steve Waghorn, Reuben Molina, Jimmy Sanchez, Michael Sanchez, Matt Carrasco, Jeff Aragon, and Chris Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
