Obituary for PIERSON

Ongelo Pierson, 87, resident of Albuquerque since 1954, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Polly; sons, Rick Pierson and wife Dee Dee of Camdenton, MO and Mick Pierson and wife Jeanette of Allen, TX; daughters, Paula Nunn and husband Kenny of Albuquerque, Sheila white and husband Terry of Albuquerque, and Robin Weaver and husband Marcus of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Shawn Huwar and wife Alberta, Josh Huwar and wife Angie, Barry Huwar and wife Tracey, Ryan Pierson, Aaron Pierson and wife Abby, Brandon Pierson, Nichole Nunn, Cody Nunn, Tyler Nunn, Dustin White and wife Rebecca, Chad White, Troy White, Jordyn Weaver, and J.D. Weaver, and three great-grandchildren. Ongelo was preceded in death by his father J.R. Pierson in 1930; his mother, Ida Carden Pierson February 1, 1982; his half brother, Gilford Pierson in 1984, and his childhood best friend, who later became his brother-in-law, Cecil Caldwell, July 31, 2009. Ongelo was born on March 14, 1923 in Stilwell, Oklahoma. He graduated from Stilwell High School in 1941. On December 15th of that same year he joined the Army Air Corps. He served in the 247th AAF base Unit in England. Ongelo trained and specialized in airplane and engine maintenance on B-24's. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on September 13, 1945. He and Polly were married on May 28, 1946 in Columbus, KS. Ongelo received his Bachelors Degree and his Masters Degree from North Eastern in Talequah, OK. Because of his love for children, Ongelo became a schoolteacher. In 1949 he began his career in a small schoolhouse in Baron Fork, OK, not only as the teacher of 6th - 8th grade, but also the principal. In 1954 he moved his family to Albuquerque and became the Principal of Sandia Base Elementary School. After 24 years, he was transferred to Mountain View Elementary School where he finished out his career and retired from Albuquerque Public School system in 1982. He became a born again Christian in 1966 and was a long time member and Trustee at Berean Baptist Church. Since 1983 he has been a member of and attended Sandia Baptist Church. Ongelo loved fishing and woodcarving. On any given Saturday you could find him at the soccer fields or baseball fields watching his grandchildren participate. He was an avid OU fan. Friends may visit French ~ Lomas location, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2010. Services will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution Ave NE, 87112 with burial following at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. Pallbearers will be Ryan Pierson, Aaron Pierson, Brandon Pierson, Cody Nunn, Tyler Nunn, and Troy White.
