Obituary for HATHAWAY

Donald "Don" Joseph Hathaway, age 87, of Belen, formerly of Santa Fe and Socorro, passed away March 19, 2010. He was born on April 8, 1922 in Pullman, Washington. He graduated with a diploma in Political Science from UNM in 1947. A U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII as a Radio Intercept Operator, Mr. Hathaway was a New Mexico State Senator from 1960-66 representing Socorro. He worked with the Motor Transportation Department, Enforcement Bureau from 1968-87 and a Standard Oil Wholesale Dealer in Socorro. Mr. Hathaway was the former president of the Lions Club in Santa Fe, and served as Executive Vice President of the New Mexico Retail Association from 1966-67. He also belonged to the Belen Optimists Club, the Masons, The China-Burma India Veterans Association, St. Philips Episcopal Church in Belen and Holy Faith Episcopal Church in Santa Fe. He enjoyed golfing in his spare time and reading mystery and history novels, frequenting the Belen Library. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bonnie "Gene" Hathaway; children, Lynn and husband Larry Benna, Tiger Mossman, Greg Hathaway and Leigh and husband Joey Fernandez; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jamie, Cody, Isabel and Jenna, great granddaughter, Bailey and sister in law, Lucille Hathaway. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Henry Hathaway. A Memorial Service will be held 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel, where family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m.. Graveside Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 29, 2010, at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Contributions in Mr. Hathaway's name are suggested to the charity of your choice.
