Carl G. Derr, 80, a resident of Albuquerque beginning in 1976, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary, of Albuquerque; children, Virginia Stewart and husband, Jack, of Anthony, Texas; Judi Borth and husband, Larry, of Gatesville, Texas; Glenn Derr and wife, Lorie, of Tuscon, Arizona; Constance Derr and the late Harold Norris, of Corrales, New Mexico; and Gary Derr and wife, Christi, of Boulder, Colorado; grandchildren, Travis and Ashley Borth, and James, Maura, Patrick, Bryan and Michael Derr. He is also survived by his nephews Alan, Earl and Lyle Mills, and nieces Sharon San Romani and Pam Langley. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Audra Derr and his two sisters, Elva Mills and Lola Langley. Carl was a 50-plus year member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 49. He served numerous terms on the local union's executive board. He began his union affiliation with the sheet metal workers union in the Chicago area, Du Page County, Illinois. In his retirement, he remained active in the union through the local's retiree chapter. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War, which included a tour in Japan. Carl and Mary enjoyed many years of camping, traveling and enjoying the outdoors. Carl was an avid reader of westerns and enjoyed wood working and metal work. Friends and Family may visit French ~ Wyoming Chapel on Friday, March 26, 2010, 5:00 p.m. until the Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010, 1:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Annunciation Church, 2621 Vermont NE @ Claremont.
