Obituary for SMITH

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday February 14, 2010

Marvin Henry Smith, RN, CCRN, RRT, lost his valiant battle with renal cell cancer on February 1, 2010, at his mountain-view home warmly encircled by his family. He was born in the District of Columbia on April 20, 1952. He traveled the military life with his family and it landed him to graduate the class of '69 in Pemberton, NJ. The high school sweethearts, (Judy) eloped in January '70 to Texas where he began his 38 year career in healthcare. Multi-credentialed and cross trained his titles included: Staff RN MICU at VAMC in Albuquerque, NM; Clinical Coordinator and Program Director Respiratory Therapy at McLennan Community College in Waco, TX, Paramedic Instructor at Temple Junior College in Temple, TX; Staff RN in CCU/ICU/ER as well as Chief Respiratory Therapist and Certified Respiratory Therapist at hospitals in both Waco and West, TX. The lure of hunting and adventure beckoned him to the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico). Always the traveler, he vacationed often with his family: three children, two sons-in-law, and five grandchildren to many unique places across the United States. Always improving on his knowledge base and professional experience, he was well read and his gentle manner and quick wit touched the lives of many- a truly gifted mentor. "Sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn't" "Keep your nose in the wind and your eye along the skyline." FEBRUARY 1, 2010: Ok, you're done. It's finally time to let go of all those intense feelings you've been dealing with. If you have some free time, you can actually spend it having some fun. Bet you're feeling better already, just thinking about how wonderful it will be to let go and stop worrying. Of course, if you really want to feel better, you'll plan some quality time alone with a loved one. Memorial donations can be made to the "Trees in Memory" program at www.arborday.org.
