Obituary for FOWLER

ERIC B. FOWLER A long time resident of Los Alamos, and since 2002 of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away at the Manzano del Sol Village nursing home in Albuquerque on February 2, 2010. Eric was born in Milbank, South Dakota, on May 4, 1914. During the Great Depression he attended South Dakota State University part time and later went to Kansas State University, where he completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemistry and agronomy. In Kansas he met and married Dorcile R. Samuelson. The couple moved to Iowa, where Eric completed his Ph.D. at Iowa State University in 1950, and where daughters, Mary and Ruth were born. Eric taught at Iowa State, and then the family moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, in 1956. Eric spent the remainder of his career working for the Health Division, H-7, of Los Alamos National Laboratory on problems related to radioactive waste disposal and other environmental issues. A son, William Eric, was born in Los Alamos to Eric and Dorcile. Eric was preceded in death by his wife Dorcile; his parents; and two sisters. Survivors include William Fowler, of Albuquerque; Mary Fowler Worman, Warrensburg, Missouri; Ruth Ann Fowler, Davis, California; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. A Memorial Service at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos will be held in the spring on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the March of Dimes Foundation, 7007 Wyoming Blvd NE Suite E2 Albuquerque, NM 87109 (505) 344-5150.
