Obituary for NITSCHKE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday January 24, 2010

Patricia Donahue Nitschke, 64, died January 19, 2010, after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Patricia was born June 24, 1945, in Norristown, PA, to Joseph and Elmera Donahue. She graduated from Bishop Kendrick High School in Norristown, and later attended Gwynned Mercy College. In 1980, she moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she enjoyed friends and family for nearly 30 years. She gained her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Albuquerque, and her MBA from the College of Santa Fe. Patricia's pride in her work and relationships with her colleagues made her career enormously fulfilling. Her career in Albuquerque started at GE Aircraft Engines. She later moved to Sandia National Laboratories, where she performed many roles for more than 20 years, including staff auditor and, most recently, fleet analyst. Her greatest joy was actively participating in the lives of her sons and grandchildren. Patricia made several trips per year to her sons' homes in suburban Philadelphia, and enjoyed annual vacations in Ocean City, NJ. The boardwalk sights and sounds brought her great joy in her youth, and great relief during her sickness. Patricia is survived by her sons, Eric Nitschke and Jason Nitschke; daughter-in-law, Connie Nitschke; brothers Dennis Donahue and Joseph P. Donahue; sister-in-law, Ann Donahue, seven nieces and nephews, and two grandchildren, Julia and Luke, whom she adored. Patricia and her family are extremely thankful for the advice and care offered by the New Mexico Cancer Center and Presbyterian Hospital. A celebration of her life will be planned in Pennsylvania for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the New Mexico Cancer Center.
