Obituary for FERNANDEZ

Charles G. Fernandez, 55, a resident of Albuquerque passed away from a battle with cancer on January 12, 2010. Mr. Fernandez is survived by his wife of 33 years Mrs. Yolanda Fernandez; his daughter, Nicole Davila; his son, Charles M. Fernandez and wife, Carolina; his sister, Sandy Vargas and husband, Robert; two brothers, Tony Fernandez and girlfriend, Kathy and David Fernandez; grandsons, Estevan and Mateo Fernandez; his mother and father-in-law, Maurice and Betty Cordova; his brothers and sisters-in-law; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and many other extended family members. Mr. Fernandez was preceded in death by his parents, Gonzalo and Anna Fernandez. Mr. Fernandez was a member of the Catholic Church; a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam Era; and a motor coach operator for the City of Albuquerque for 22 years. Charles was known for his big smile, the love for his family, and he enjoyed working in his yard and garden. Visitation will be Friday, January 15, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final visitation will be Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at the Church, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Father Gerry Steinmetz, presider. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eddie Soto, Michael Lujan, Michael Sanchez, Matty Romero III, Charlie Vargas, and Donald Marquez. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Vargas and Mike Cordova. The family requests that donations/contributions be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
