Corey James Colton, 19, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009. He is survived by his father, David; his mother, Kelly; older brother, Justin; older sister, Lacey; younger brother, Jody; maternal grandparents, Sue and Ray Benjamin; paternal grandmother, Betty Colton; uncle and aunt, LTC Brian and Kerri Benjamin; paternal aunt and uncle, Judy and Cecilio Quintana; paternal uncle, Robert Colton; and numerous other relatives and friends. Corey graduated from La Cueva High School May 2008 and participated in their MCJROTC. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in November 2008 and was currently assigned to Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, SC. He set physical fitness records at La Cueva, the Albuquerque Marine recruiting office, and in basic training at MCRD, San Diego. Corey was a talented artist with a love for fast sports cars. His plan was to be discharged, return to school, and pursue a career as an Albuquerque Fire Fighter or in the field of architecture/drafting. Words cannot describe our love for him and how much he will be missed. Friends may pay their respects at a Celebration of Corey's Life which will be held at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, Saturday, January 9, 2010, 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family.
