Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday December 22, 2009

William Thomas Wray, age 83 and long time resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away Friday morning, December 18, 2009 at Mountain View Hospital, in Las Vegas, NV. He was brought into this world on May 24, 1926 in Leaksville, NC, and was one of three children born to the late Thomas and Malinda Cleveland. He married Ingeburg Erika Bittner on August 11, 1961 in Ludwigsburg, Germany. She passed away in May of 1984. Mr. Wray is survived by his daughters, Evelyn W. Walker, Alice F. McMath; son-in-law, Timothy K. Walker; sister, Lottie Ball; brother-in-law, Clifford Ball; grandchildren, Ashley and Chelsea McMath; niece, Denise Seagraves and her husband Dale and other beloved family in North Carolina. William served in the United States Army nearly 29 years as a military police officer. He entered World War II in 1944 and served the 104th Infantry Division. From Camp Lucky Strike in France to San Luis Obispo for invasion training, he traveled the globe, something he said he always wanted to do. William told stories of his missions in Germany, Japan, Korea, White Sands Missile Range and his two tours in Vietnam. During his career he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and countless others. Mr. Wray retired while stationed in Fort Hood, TX, in 1973. He loved the simple things in life. A day without baseball or horse racing was a pretty boring day for him. William will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him dearly. Friends and family are invited to attend Services at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel on Monday, December 28, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, where he will find his final resting place next to his wife.
