Obituary for THOMAS

James David "Dave" was born June 13, 1931 in Batesville, Arkansas to George and Ruth Thomas. He passed away December 16, 2009 after surviving Leukemia for over 12 years. Dave moved to New Mexico with his family in 1949 at the age of 18 and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1949. He met and married Jean Reese in 1953 and they had five children. Mr. Thomas worked for George Rutherford Construction for 26 years at which time George Rutherford retired and Dave, his brother Tony, and several other employees acquired the company and renamed it Summit Construction. Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing and in his younger years riding horses. He was admired for his artistic talents including oil painting, crafting segmented bowls, vases and colorful windmills out of wood. Dave is survived by his wife of 56 years Jean; his children, David, Leta Martinez and husband Sonny, Jon, Brett, Clayton and wife Martha; six grandchildren, Patrick and wife Kara, Kasey, Chris, Brett, Nicole and Desirae. He is also survived by his brothers, George Thomas and wife Reta, Bob Thomas and wife Cathy, Tony Thomas and wife Davedda; sisters, Mary Johnson, Phyllis Mercier and husband Tom, sister in law Margaret Morrison and husband David, and many other family and friends. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruth, and father and mother-in-law John and Margaret Reese.
