Obituary for LEVITT

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday December 16, 2009

Earl B. Levitt, 89, died December 12, 2009 after a brief illness. Earl was born October 19, 1920 in Greenwood, Mississippi. He was a great man, loving husband, wonderful father, generous community member, and person of integrity throughout his life. He proudly served in the 504 Parachute Infantry of the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II, making lifelong friends and confirming his commitment to the American Constitution and the importance of speaking out against injustice. He found his true calling and a career that he loved as an air traffic controller. He enjoyed going to work every day and found the perfect venue for his wicked sense of humor. Earl retired in 1980 and pursued his loves of reading, fishing, and politics. A Lobo Basketball season ticket-holder from the first year the Pit opened, he loved watching his Lobos win. He was a genuine patriot, someone who took his responsibilities as a citizen seriously. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Naoma Ardell Levitt; his daughter Havens Levitt and her partner, Rebecca Dakota, and his son and daughter-in-law, Dana and Adele Levitt, and his grandchildren, Ethan and Hannah Levitt.
