Lelon E. (Hopp) Lewis, 81, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away November 28, 2009, after a lengthy illness. Lelon was born in Clayton, WI, in 1928. He joined the U.S. Navy immediately upon graduation from High School in 1946. He attended the University of Wisconsin and met Rose Marie Licht, his wife of nearly 50 years, during this time. After graduation, Lelon began his career in the mining industry working in the mountains of Colorado. He worked at several mines across the United States and in Canada before retiring in Albuquerque with Rose Marie. Lelon was an avid prospector, and enjoyed travel and gold panning. Lelon was a dedicated, courageous, and loving husband and father. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Lewis and is survived by one son, James Lewis; as well as four daughters, Paula Doke and husband Ralph, Pamela Hofmann and husband Robert; Susan Grassham and husband Mike; and Sharon Theobald and husband Kendell; sister Joyce Reopelle. He also had ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday, December 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Westside Chapel.
