Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday December 03, 2009

Roy Meredith Jenkins (Jenks), 95, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, November 27, 2009. He was born July 16, 1914 in Conway Springs, KS. Roy was the first of three sons born to Fred W. and Mabel I. Jenkins. He is survived by Gladys L. Jenkins, his wife of 69 years; one son, Gerald R. and wife, Lois A. Jenkins of Albuquerque; two daughters , Janice D. Vickers and Judith L. Mouser, both of Edgewood; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Ray G. Jenkins of Conway Springs, KS and F. Paul Jenkins of Tucson, AZ; and grandson, David L. Haaland. Roy grew up in Kansas and worked in New Mexico and California before moving back to Albuquerque in 1950. Like his father, he liked people and never met a stranger. He loved fishing and camping with family. Roy drove for Continental Trailways Bus Lines for 24 years before hiring on to Navajo Freight Lines where he drove for 19 years and millions more miles before retiring in 1976. He then started G&J Refrigeration and continued this service long after his retirement from driving. Friends and clients alike called upon Roy's skills to repair difficult systems which had been beyond the capability of others. Roy was Entered, Passed and Raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Masonic Temple Lodge #6, Albuquerque, NM and went on to become a 32nd Degree Shriner in the Scottish Rite. Roy is dearly loved by his family and will be missed always. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 5, 2009, 11;00 a.m., at Chester T.
